Böckstein is the southernmost district of the world-famous health resort of Bad Gastein, located directly at the fork in the valley leading towards Anlauftal/Tauernschleuse on one side and towards Naßfeld (Sportgastein) and Heilstollen on the other.
In ancient times (Roman period), Böckstein was the starting point of one of the most famous Tauern passes, the Korntauern. However, Böckstein became known as a mining village. From the 18th century onwards, gold and silver were mined on a large scale in the mountains south of Böckstein, and the Radhausberg bears its name from this period. A mining settlement with an accompanying museum tells the story of this period. Today, Böckstein is a cosy village, mainly consisting of single-family and multi-family houses and a few tourist businesses. Anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday away from the tourist centres, but still in close proximity to them, has come to the right place. Here, all possibilities are open.
Several restaurants and rustic inns are located in Böckstein or are within walking distance:
- The “Gasthof Radhausberg” with home-style cooking, located in a Wilhelminian-style house in Altböckstein
- The restaurant “Zur Post” spoils its guests with fine dining at affordable prices – even for guests on a tight budget.
- “The Irish Coffee” – located at the fork in the road towards Autoschleuse and Sportgastein – spoils its guests with Irish and local specialities.
- The “Schafflinger Alm” – just a 20-minute walk from the apartment – offers good home cooking in a rustic atmosphere.
- The restaurant “Die Hirschau” – also a good 20-minute walk from the apartment – offers steaks, specialities from our lakes or the sea and, of course, good home cooking.
